Passport to Heaven - Freestyle Europe - Belguim - 01.10.07
Passport to heaven is an annual event held in northern Belguim. This year Flexifoil were involved in the Power Kite displays so the UK riders were asked to attend. Myself & Natz went over for the event & unfortunately other riders were not able to attend as well, however plenty of the Flexifoil staff were going over so it was all good.
Friday 28th October
The road trip started on Friday with myself picking up some members of the Flexifoil staff to take down to meet up with Natz’s. After a Horrific journey having to travel through London due to the m25 being shut we finally pulled up in the early evening, before heading down to Chichester for Luke’s leaving due.
With the 4.30 am start in the morning we left the party at around 12am to get some sleep in, with some being the key word.
Saturday 29th October
Saturday morning was an early start down to the tunnel but luckily managed to get some sleep in on the journey down. The weather was poor with heavy rain and little wind in the UK and on arriving in Belgium the weather was no better. During the morning the weather started to brighten up and so did the wind. This allowed myself and other riders to go out a demo for the large amount of public at the event.
With this predominately a Stunt Kite & basic power kite event there were no other riders who were buggy jumping so during the demo crowds quickly formed as for most, this was not something they had ever seen before. Using my 8.5 and the wind around 15mph was able to pull off huge airs, sidewinders & rotations with plenty of 720’s & even managed a 1080 which I was totally stocked with anyway!
It was nice to show what can be done with a buggy & for it to be so appreciated was an incredible feeling.
During the afternoon the ride cam in so we headed to the hotel where we managed to get some sleep in! Well about 30 mins. After having a rest I headed back to the beach to chill out and relax with all the crew.
The wind had picked even more and with the beach once again usable it was too good to turn down so managed to get another session in for everyone who was on the beach.
Saturday evening we went to the best Rib house in the world, it was sooo nice and with all the riders together, around 15 of us it was a great atmosphere and a great end to the day. Later on we chilled at the beach and had a few drinks (under statement).
Sunday 30th October
The morning was spent waking up and recovering from the previous nights antics, after some breakfast and coffee we made our way down to the beach where unfortunately there was very little wind but the sun was shining and it was warm.
My self and Natz made the most of the little wind and put on a little demo. With a fair trip back we headed off at lunch time making it back to the Natz’s at around 6pm and after a short stop we made our way back home. After dropping the crew off finally walked in the door at 10pm completely shagged.
A Massive thanks to Peter Vanden Bussche of Mellow (Flexifoil Europe) for arranging the whole trip & inviting us over.
Also thanks to Flexifoil for Funding the trip & To the event organizers for there hospitality and providing us with a hotel!
Pictures to come shortly.
