South West Freestyle - 13.09.07
With not a great deal of wind forecasted for the competition, we did
not know what to expect from the event. Myself (Craig), Will, Lewis and
a few others headed down for a pre-event session but unfortunately the
days leading up to the event brought no wind so instead we just chilled
out and relaxed.
The morning of the competition did not look good weather wise, the sea mist was hovering over the coast and we could not see no further than a couple of hundred metres. All the riders registered meaning we had to just do the waiting game. Luck was not with us and the mist did not clear till later on.
The evening brought some wind in so a bunch of us blagged our way into a car park and went for a dune jumping session as well as short buggy session. All the riders were enjoying the fun of jumping off the dunes and getting some sick air, with the buggy riders also enjoying the wind on the beach. As the sun went down everyone was still out enjoying the last of the light; a large crowd gathered from the neighbouring campsite to see the final few runs of the day.
Sunday morning brought some wind and clear sky, so the plan was simple, get onto the beach and attempt and run the competition. The wind was not ideal and was not very strong so it was going all or nothing for the riders.
The buggiers decided to have a best trick competition rather than rounds, so this was agreed. In the round we all went for it, but one person in particular went for it, Richard Dent(hank). Hank is a local rider to me and is well known in the kiting community. He pulled out all of the tricks with some sweet transitions, myself and will were doing kiteloop variations but the conditions suited technical riding, and this is my preferred riding style. I managed to pull off a Backloop Kite Loop Boneless (foot out and tap floor) too 2 wheel landing which landed me the win of the Best Trick.
A great event, just a shame there was not a bit more wind.
