Last weekend was the first ever RAWKite British Power Kite Tour held at Pembrey. RAWKite was a concept of mine last year with the idea to revamp the competition scene in the UK. With the help of some of the other riders, Dave Roberts, Ash Garwood, Lewis Wilby & good friends Andy Preston & Mark Bashford we came up with the ideas for the Tour. I then got in touch with some good friends at Red Bull who were more than happy to support the events and help us get the tour off the ground!
I headed down on the Thursday with team mate Abe arriving to light rain, after a few hours the skies cleared and we managed to get an awesome session in on the 19m Speed. This was the first time out on my new kite so it was time to learn how it flies and to get dialled in.
Friday was our progression day, this was more informal than we maybe would have liked but as wind was not great it was harder to do anything else. Everyone got out and managed to have an awesome freeride.
Saturday wind was not looking great, but we still headed down to the beach and set up hoping the wind would fill in. We started off with the Landboard Am’s & then the Buggy Am’s.
WOW the level in the Buggy Am’s was fantastic with some absolutely awesome tricks being thrown by all the riders. It was great to see that the future of freestyle buggying is going to be pushed.
The wind dropped through the afternoon so the competition was called off. In the evening Red Bull set up the Tent with full music set up in the Campsite and put on an amazing BBQ for all the riders to enjoy!
Sunday morning we had a window of wind but not for all day, so we got to the beach nice and early and waited for the tide to drop to try and get as much of the wind as possible. Sadly we only managed to run round 1 of the Landboarding pro.
Although the wind did not play ball for us over the weekend for competition we still got plenty of freeriding in and everyone had a good time. It was nice to get some hours under the Flysurfer Speed as it’s different to flying on handles!
Cup 2 is at Essex at the end of June which I’m really looking forward too!
