It all started for me in 1999 when my uncle got me a small stunt kite for my birthday. I would fly this as much as I could. When I was on holiday one year in Leucate, France I was pulled by the kite, and it was from this point that I wanted to get into power kiting.

Once home I went into my local kite store, Edge Power Kites and bought myself a small power kite. From here I became more and more hooked on the sport. In the Autumn I went to a nearby kite festival where I met up with some other power kiters who took me down the beach and let me try their Flexifoil Blades. I was fixed on wanting more power after this.

I bought a Blade 2 3.0 as my first power kite and would often go up to the local school field kiting with others from the area. Not too long after, I started buggying and purchased a Flexifoil Freestyle buggy.

Once I got into buggying I wanted to progress quickly, learning new tricks and going as fast as I could. Fortunately, my local beach at Brancaster was the home of buggy freestyle so I was able to learn from the best, such as Sy Leonard, Rob Hills and Mark Everitt to name but a few. I can definitely say they pushed me to go harder!

When learning new tricks I  always tried to perfect them, not just throwing the trick out but doing it properly. Looking back I am glad I did as this gave me much more buggy control as I progressed.

In 2004 I entered my first competition at X-Zone and came 3rd in the Buggy Freestyle, 1st in the Novice Buggy Race and 2nd in Pro Buggy Race. It was from this event I wanted to keep pushing my buggying and continue to compete.

Through 2005 – 2007 I entered more competitions, coming 1st in several events and placed in the top 3 for the remainder. In 2007 I  joined the Flexifoil team and during the summer months Peter Vanden Busche, Flexifoil’s European Distributor, invited me on the Freestyle Europe tour.  I traveled to Spain, France & Belgium to Demo Freestyle Buggying at major events.

Frustratingly in the Autumn of 2007 I slipped a disc in my lower back and had to take it easy going into 2008. I still competed throughout the year, coming 1st at Atmosphere 08 but I wanted to focus on getting my health back. However at the end of the year I was involved in a car accident. This put me back to square one and I had to go through 6 months of intense physiotherapy to restore my health.

The second half of 2009 was spent riding to get back to my former ability.  I wasn’t focused on competing but I wanted to at least freeride at the same level as before the accident.

In 2010 I was back on top form and I started to compete again. I won all my events throughout the year except for the final one where I came 2nd, winning the title of UK Champion at the 3rd BKSA round.

In August, I went to Germany to compete at the KLB European Masters.  I came 1st which made me European Champion.

2010 had been a great year, but I wanted to slow down and re-focus my buggying for 2011. This year has been more about freeriding and trying to get more people into the sport, getting it the recognition it deserves.
